My Therapy Style
Client-Centered
I believe you are the expert in your own life. My role as your therapist is to help you cultivate your inner wisdom and develop more adaptive ways of being so that you can move toward growth and a new experience of yourself. I don't offer advice but I do help you consider new perspectives on patterns, habits, and ways of being that no longer serve you.
Relational
Research shows that regardless of any techniques a therapist uses, the most curative factor is the therapeutic relationship between client and therapist. I believe wholeheartedly in the importance of a warm, genuine, open therapeutic relationship as the healing container in which meaningful change happens.
Trauma-Informed
I identify as a trauma-informed therapist and have extensive training in trauma-informed care through the AIR (Adaptive Internal Relational) Network model. My work is always informed by the neurobiology of trauma and what happened to you (or what didn’t happen!) in your early relationships. I acknowledge the many ways that trauma can show up - whether through specific traumatic events in childhood or adulthood, difficult or problematic relationships, racial and generational trauma, and the many other ways trauma shows up in our lives.
EMDR Therapy
EMDR is the gold-standard treatment for processing trauma, traumatic memories and experiences, and other distressing life events. EMDR helps you to reprocess these memories and images so that they are less triggering and activating to your nervous system. And EMDR Therapy is not just for trauma but also for any issue in your life that causes you to feel stuck. I offer all my clients the opportunity to engage with EMDR and it is a primary way I work with folks as it produces deep and profound healing.
MinDFUL
I had my first exposure to mindfulness through Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction in 2005 and I was hooked. I loved the concept so much, I eventually took a year-long comprehensive training in The Hakomi Method, a mindfulness-based somatic (i.e. body-centered) psychotherapy method. There is a substantial body of research that shows the many benefits of mindfulness both in therapy and in daily life.
Sensorimotor Psychotherapy
I am receiving training in Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, a somatic and mindfulness-based therapy developed by Dr. Pat Ogden. This deep work invites us into mindfulness of our somatic experience and how it can lead us in the direction of growth and healing.
Holistic
I have a master's degree in Holistic Health from St. Catherine University and am passionate about integrating research-based psychotherapy practices with a holistic, intuitive style. I love working interprofessionally with complementary and alternative providers to help you move toward healing and wholeness.
